When I was 6 I left London, my birth town to go to Lagos with my family. I was hit by an intoxicating world of heat and noise, colour, knowledge, tradition and history, spirits and ancestors, ritual and etiquette.

This influenced me as a young artist - I made comics for local people, I made shoes, I drew every day - I was art obsessed!!

JAGUNOSHIN was my Great Grandfather from ONDO state, a warrior, herbalist and traditional Babalawo (which means Father of the mysteries in the Yoruba language). I was deeply inspired by my experiences both in Ondo State and in Lagos, where I spent my young life.

When I came back to live in London when I was in my late 20's, I managed security for arts venues for years, but I was always doing artwork myself and I dreamed of making a career out of art and creativity, which is an essential part of who I am and sits deep within my soul. I eventually braved it and went to University to study a degree in Moving Image and Illustration. I then went on to study interior and exterior design.

I run a design service and enjoy this immensely, but my heart is with my culture and I wanted to do something that brings Yoruba mythology to the lives of everyone. I started designing and then I created the brand Femi in 2019. Since then I have showcased my work in House of Fraser and have attracted growing press attention. I work with a collective of other talented African artists as part of a project that promotes high end Afro-centric art and culture called Untapped Creatives.

The Femi collections represent my journey of reconnection with the Yoruba Orisha's which enable us all, regardless of background, colour or religion, to engage with Yoruba spirituality and culture as a means of celebrating African pride and identity, knowledge and history.

I translate my drawings and paintings into unique and intricate digital art prints and homewares.

I believe that by engaging with and owning my designs, we can all reconnect with a pre-colonial era, with our ancestors and jointly celebrate what was largely taken from us during this period in history - the immense and beautiful culture and tradition of African people .
